Tom Majors Fun For Wood Artist pictures of artwork

The Tom Majors Fund brings world class artists to Key West who work wholly or in part with wood, and supports the ones already here doing so. It celebrates the medium’s expressive potential, and its unique ability to narrate and illuminate our relationship to the natural world. The Fund is established in honor and recognition of Tom Majors, a builder of things large and small, by Angie Majors and Linda Downs.

Each year The Studios designates a program or programs to receive support from the Tom Majors Fund. The Fund was launched in 2018 with an island-wide festival of wood art across Key West, anchored by With the Grain, a group exhibition of nationally recognized artists at The Studios of Key West, curated by Helen Harrison with Fran Silverman.

Tom Majors served and protected his country during World War II, followed by a career building infrastructure and public works that still sustain the nation. On retirement, he found joy and connectedness in volunteering his time to others and crafting simple yet elegant functional objects in wood. It is this dual spirit – of expansive ambition made tangible through handmade things – that the Tom Majors Fund seeks to nurture in Key West.
